There are many signs that show whether you or someone you know are depressed:
Suicide warning signs in depressed teens:
- They find it difficult to make decisions, concentrate, or remember details
- You sleep too much or not enough
- They feel worthless, guilty, or helplessness
- Loss of interest or nothing is fun anymore
- Overeating or loss of appetite
- Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment
- Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings
- Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts (If this is true, talk to someone right away...)
- Low-self esteem
- Sluggishness (less active)
- More computer time, less sunshine
- Spending more time alone (avoiding peers)
- Sadness and hopelessness
- You don't see the point of trying for anything anymore
- Faking a smile and telling others that they're fine when they're not
- You constantly feel irritable, angry or sad
- Anything and everything makes you cry
- Frequent, unexplained headaches or other physical problems
- You just can't concentrate, your grades might be lowering because of it

- Talking or joking about committing suicide
- Saying things like, “I’d be better off dead,” “I wish I could disappear forever,” or “There’s no way out.”
- Speaking positively about death or romanticizing dying (“If I died, people might love me more”)
- Writing stories and poems about death, dying, or suicide
- Engaging in reckless behavior or having a lot of accidents resulting in injury
- Giving away prized possessions
- Saying goodbye to friends and family as if for the last time
- Seeking out weapons, pills, or other ways to kill themselves
